The mission of the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office is to provide the highest level of law enforcement service to all the citizens of Coweta County, and to create safe communities by building partnerships that work to prevent crime.

Meet Sheriff Lenn Wood

Sheriff Lenn Wood is a lifelong resident of Coweta County. He is married to Theresa Wood and has been for over 39 years. Their children are Jeremy, who is in law enforcement in Coweta County, and Zack, who is in management at a local industry in Newnan. Lenn and Theresa are members of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Sheriff Wood and Theresa were educated in the Coweta Public Schools and graduated from Newnan High School. Lenn is a graduate of the Clayton Regional Law Enforcement Academy.

Sheriff Wood began his law enforcement career in 1978 as a patrolman at the Newnan Police Department, he served for 17 years achieving the rank of Detective Sergeant.

In 1995 He joined the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Wood continued moving forward by being instrumental in the Development and implementation of the School Resource Officer Program in the County School System and the Coweta County Training Unit. He achieved President of the Georgia Association of School Resource Officers and held that Office for several years. He was the Coweta Jail Administrator and Court Services Director and was named Chief Deputy by Sheriff Yeager.

Sheriff Wood is a state certified law enforcement instructor. He is authorized to instruct Officers on General Instruction, Firearms, Speed Detection Devices, and Emergency Medical and has a Senior Instructor Status.

Sheriff Wood was sworn in as Interim Sheriff upon the retirement of Sheriff Mike Yeager on March 1, 2019.

Sheriff Wood is very involved in the community and served on the Newnan Coweta Pony League Board. He also has coached several Baseball, Basketball, Soccer, Softball and Coweta 4-H BB gun Teams. He is very active in his church and has held several leadership positions there. Sheriff Wood is a member of the Newnan Kiwanis Club and believes, like they do, in giving back to his community. He is a member of the Peace Officers Association of Georgia and the Georgia Sheriff’s Association.
